ooc
- first off, hello! I'm Ixy/Owl/Chi/anything else you want to call me so long as it's not mean/your head admin. Anything you need, don't hesitate to talk to me!
- second, this site is set in the universe of the Mass Effect games at a very roughly parallel time to Shep's escapades, but it will not involve major canon characters OR EVENTS. You might be able to convince me if you want to play as someone like Kal'Reegar or Aethyta, who don't affect the plot all that much, but as a baseline rule no canon characters. Mmkay?
- that being said you still ought to have a basic knowledge of the ME universe. You'll probably be able to catch up pretty quick if you don't; it's just the fewer spoilers you get, the happier you'll probably be.
- there's a 100-word requirement for in-character posts only. On the ooc boards you may be as brief or as vociferous as you wish.
- okay so the game says it's rated M, but it's basically your standard PG-13 sci-fi/action movie, so try and keep site content at around that level. THINK OF THE CHILDREN.
- speaking of standard sci-fi/action movies, I tend to play sort of fast and loose with the bounds of the Mass Effect universe, and there are so many references to so many things across the games that if you really feel the need to have a Vulcan character or something, I don't have a problem with it. Just ask first before putting it in your profile, 'kay? ;)
also ExoGeni is totally a front for Weyland-Yutani I mean what - be nice yo this is a roleplay site for crying out loud it's silly by nature so just don't start fights or be a jerk it's not worth it and ~we are all in harmony~
yes I know that's bullshit hush the point is don't be a jerkwad - also in the 'don't be a jerkwad' category is don't be a godmoder/make Mary-Sue characters/practice general Annoying RP Habits. It's really better for everyone in the long run since if you don't you'll get a good reputation as a nice, respectful roleplayer AND WE ALL KNOW HOW VALUABLE THAT IS.
- I know this sounds like a lot of rules but really it's not! Basically just know that this is a NON-CANON, RELATIVELY TAME, LITERATE MASS EFFECT ROLEPLAY and that you should be a decent human being and we'll all be good!
ic/character creation
[/size]- just to reiterate: no canon characters unless under special circumstances to be predetermined with an admin! This INCLUDES canon characters from other works! References/species/technology/data from other published universes may be imported as long as it fits into the relative theme and timeframe we're dealing with and as long as it isn't too specific. So if you want to have a Spectre that's half-Vulcan and his father's an ambassador and you say his name is "Spork", you're going to be out of luck, but if your character is otherwise entirely of your own devising and just happens to be a Vulcan/Andorian/Wookie /Reaver/whatever, you're good.
- please only create one character at a time. You may create as many characters as you can maintain, but please wait for the first one to be accepted before posting another profile.
- PUT ALL CHARACTERS ON ONE ACCOUNT. There is ONE exception to this rule which concerns the creation of Spectres; this will be detailed below.
- you may only create Spectre characters once you've reached Level 10 (or if you're a staff member ;P); check your profile if you're confused, and I'll be putting up a "game mechanics faq" page shortly.
- as just stated, once you reach level 10 you may create a Spectre character; PLEASE CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT TO DO THIS since Spectres have special permissions and get their own membergroup color, etc. ALL OTHER CHARACTERS should be created on your main account. So one account is for all your "normal" characters, while the other is for your Spectre ONLY. I know it sounds confusing but it'll make sense later, I promise.
- follow the profile form -- do NOT add any superfluous information or sections that are not included, for example; it makes me nuts -- and please follow the admin's suggestions, should they leave any. It's polite and it will help improve your writing, so it's a win-win for everyone!
- I'll be less of a grammar freak in the out-of-character boards (hey, I live on tumblr, grammar doesn't exist there), but try to proofread your roleplay posts. Everyone makes typos, but it's so much easier to read a post when it's not rife with misspellings and run-on sentences.
- speaking of which, overly poetic "purple prose" terms such as 'azure orbs', 'chestnut locks', etc. drive me up the wall. PLEASE don't use them. (The worst I ever heard was someone using 'audits' instead of 'ears'. SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE HELL. Every time you use fancy Suetiful text, I have to go out and kick a puppy. THINK OF THE PUPPIES.)
- once again, 100-word minimum for IN-CHARACTER POSTS ONLY. The profile forms have their own requirements; stick to them.
